Trailblazing nurse a national award winner

The national winner of the Health Minister’s Award for Nursing Trailblazers has been lauded for her work to expand virtual care at West Moreton Health.

Virtual Care Nurse Unit Manager Shannon Wallis was named the 2020 winner of the award, an initiative of the Federal Minister for Health Greg Hunt and the Australian College of Nursing.

Ms Wallis has overseen the expansion of the MeCare program – which uses in-home technology to provide specialised support for people with challenging health issues and circumstances – to establish a virtual hospital program at West Moreton Health.

West Moreton Health chief executive Dr Kerrie Freeman congratulated Ms Wallis on the impressive feat.

“Shannon has demonstrated incredible drive and innovation to help expand virtual care at West Moreton Health.

“She is also a fantastic leader and mentor and works to share her knowledge and onboard other staff to help deliver virtual care.’’
