Expression of Interest (EOI) for Members of the West Moreton Health Human Research Ethics Committee

About the Human Research Ethics Committee:

The West Moreton Health (WMH) Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) [EC00184] is a committee established by West Moreton Health and is constituted and operates in accordance with the National Health and Medical Research Council’s (NHMRC) National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research 2007 (Updated 2018) (National Statement), NHMRC and Universities Australia Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (2018) and the Integrated Addendum to ICH E6(R1): Guideline for Good Clinical Practice E6(R2).

The WMH HREC is registered with the NHMRC to conduct reviews of single-site research projects (i.e. research being conducted within WMH).

The objectives of the HREC are to:

  • Ensure human research submitted for review is designed with respect for the participants and is not compromised by the aims of the research, by the way it is carried out, or by the results;
  • Advise WMH on ethical issues relating to human research;
  • Evaluate and approve suitable human research proposals in line with NHMRC guidelines and Queensland Health policies; and
  • Monitor and review approved human research proposals.

About the role:

The composition of the HREC is in accordance with the requirements for membership set out in section 5.1.30 of the National Statement.

The WMH HREC is currently seeking members in the following category:

  • Category B: Male Layperson who has no affiliation with the institution (WMH) and is not currently engaged in medical, scientific, legal or academic work

The HREC acts in a consultative and advisory capacity with researchers to ensure that all research is conducted in an ethical and scientifically robust manner.

Members are asked to consider research against international and national guidelines on ethical research conduct, and based on their own knowledge, qualities and experience and not as representatives of any organisation, group or opinion. Please note, initial and ongoing training will be provided for members.
