Mental Health and Specialised Services

Mental Health and Specialised Services (MHSS) provides a range of specialist health assessment and interventions across mental health, prison health and alcohol and other drug services. MHSS has four streams; Service Development and Performance, Prison Health Services, Community and Acute Services, and Forensic and Secure Services as well as being responsible for state-wide research, training and specialised services including the Queensland Centre for Mental Health Learning, Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research and Queensland Mental Health Benchmarking Unit.

Our primary goal is to meet the needs of people and their families/carers on their mental health journey and to reduce the symptoms and impact of mental illness, drugs and alcohol misuse. Multidisciplinary teams deliver mental health assessments, clinical interventions, rehabilitation and referral services to people of all ages who are experiencing severe mental health problems.

MHSS delivers primary health care services to correctional facilities throughout the West Moreton region including; Wolston Correctional Centre, Brisbane Correctional Centre, Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre, Brisbane Youth Detention Centre and Borallon Training and Correctional Centre.

Our division is led by Dr Leanne Geppert, Executive Director, MHSS who has over 20 years' experience in planning, delivery and improvement of mental health and drug and alcohol services.
