Welcome Baby to Country Working Group

West Moreton Health is organising a Welcome Baby to Country ceremony.Welcome Baby to Country

We are looking for six Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members to help organise this inaugural event.

Welcome Baby to Country ceremonies are a significant way to connect new babies to their community. Through this ceremony we will honour the Traditional Owners of this country and we will acknowledge those who now call West Moreton home.

What is the commitment required by working group members?

The working group will run for 8 weeks from May 2019-July 2019. This will include 1 hour a week and one 3-hour solution design workshop. All members will be remunerated $40 per hour for their time.

Working group member role

The Welcome Baby to Country Working Group will:

  • Provide cultural advice and guidance to the project manager
  • Decide on what the ceremony will include
  • Tell community about the ceremony
  • Engage a Master of Ceremonies, Elder or Elders and traditional performers to welcome baby.
