West Moreton Health staff, patients and visitors commemorated Anzac Day this morning with a ceremony at Ipswich Hospital.

The ceremony allowed staff and patients to remember and honour those men and women who served in the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps at Gallipoli, and all who have served their countries since in the Australian and New Zealand defence forces.  

Chief Executive Hannah Bloch said the service was also an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution of nurses, doctors and other hospital staff who had cared for people in conflict situations.

“West Moreton Health has strong ties with the Australian Defence Force and the service was a chance for us to support our serving colleagues.”

Today’s commemorative address was delivered by Ipswich Hospital Emergency Department Staff Specialist Dr Eric Richman.

“Major Richman is an Afghanistan veteran. He shared his story of mateship and highlighted the reality of providing medical care in a conflict setting," Ms Bloch said.

"His moving address further reinforced the important role of medical professionals on the frontline and I thank him for sharing his story.

“Anzac Day is a time for peace and reflection and hosting our service at Ipswich Hospital gives patients a chance to pay their respects.”
