Interprofessional Grand Rounds discussions are a clinically-led platform for sharing medical knowledge and best practice.

Each session includes a patient, GP and hospital specialist perspective and is a great opportunity to expand your knowledge about local referral pathways (HealthPathways), ask questions and share your expertise with West Moreton Health clinicians and GPs in the region.

Grand Rounds discussions will be held via Microsoft Teams on the last Wednesday of the month from 12 noon to 1 pm.

March 2023 session

Date: 12–1 pm Wednesday, 29 March 2023

Topic: Voluntary Assisted Dying: West Moreton Health update

The session provides a West Moreton Health specific and state-wide update on Voluntary Assisted Dying since it was implemented on 1 January 2023, as well as information  on referral pathways. The introduction of VAD provides an additional end-of-life option for eligible people with a life-limiting condition. VAD and other end-of-life options are sensitive and complex topics, with many holding deeply personal views for reasons that are important to them.

  • West Moreton Health VAD Connect Senior Medical Officer Dr Anchita Karmakar
Dr Karmakar is an Australian graduate medical practitioner and a legal graduate. Dr Karmakar has a special interest in health equity and health access for vulnerable patients in the community. She hopes her expertise in these areas will help structure the VAD program in a meaningful and sustainable way.
  • West Moreton Health VAD Connect Coordinator Candice Austin
Mrs Austin has a background as a Palliative Care Social Worker which has meant speaking with patients to promote self-determination, open discussions about death and dying, and preparing for the future. She works to provide a holistic service and be an advocate for patient rights and health practitioner wellbeing.
