Boonah Hospital’s rich connection to community will be celebrated when it marks its 125-year anniversary this month.
The community is invited to attend an open day on Saturday 13 September to acknowledge the past, the present and the people who proudly support Boonah Hospital.
The event, led by West Moreton Health, the Boonah Hospital Auxiliary, and the West Moreton Health Foundation, will include information stalls and displays, entertainment and more.
Boonah Hospital Director of Nursing, Amanda Banks, said the milestone was a chance for locals to reconnect with the hospital’s proud history and the people who have worked there.
“Community has always been at the heart of Boonah Hospital and what drives us to provide the best possible care,” Ms Banks said.
“One of our longest-serving team members is clinical nurse Chris Mudde, who even authored a book about the first 100-years of the hospital.”
The original Boonah Hospital was established after residents raised the money to build it.
It was officially opened in September 1900 by the then Governor of Queensland, Lord Lamington, and had just 10 beds.
The current 16-bed hospital was built in 1977 on the same site, keeping its connection to the land and the people it serves.
West Moreton Health Chief Executive Hannah Bloch said the community’s determination to establish the hospital was a powerful legacy.
“From humble beginnings, Boonah Hospital now cares for more than 4000 people each year, providing quality care close to home,” she said.
