Baby Avah welcomed into the world in time for Mother’s Day

JessicaBauerThird time’s the charm for mum Jessica Bauer who has returned home to introduce baby Avah to her big sisters in time for Mother’s Day on Sunday.

Ms Bauer gave birth to Avah via caesarean at Ipswich Hospital on May 5 at 10.22pm. Avah was born at 38 weeks, a healthy 6 pound 7 ounces (2.92 kilograms).

After her third birthing experience at Ipswich Hospital, the Redbank Plains mum said she was looking forward to spending Mother’s Day at home with children Charlie, 2, and Mia, 1, and her fiancé Derek Rutch.

She thanked her West Moreton Health midwives, nurses and doctors, who cared for her at the hospital during the pregnancy and delivery.

“With coronavirus changes, it’s actually been fantastic not having visitors this time around,” she said. “You can rest and not worry about people streaming through the maternity ward.

“I’ve had a baby each year for the past three years and I’ve had the same midwife for all three babies, so it’s special.”

While Avah is her third baby, Ms Bauer said she is pleased to be breastfeeding for the first time under the guidance of midwives and nurses.

West Moreton Health Nursing and Midwifery Director Lynette Barrett said every birth at Ipswich Hospital was special.

“2020 is the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, and what better way to celebrate the amazing work of our staff than by wishing well the beautiful babies we see each day in the maternity ward,” she said.

“We wish all the new mums whose bundle of joy has arrived in time for Mother’s Day a joyful and restful day, and know Avah is one of thousands of we deliver every year and welcome to the world.”

There have been 890 births between January and the end of April this year at Ipswich Hospital.
