Amy Hunter and Angie Reece have been named West Moreton Health Nurse and Midwife of the Year at a ceremony to celebrate International Nurses Day today.

Karyn Ehren, West Moreton Health Interim Executive Director, Nursing and Midwifery, said Ms Hunter and Ms Reece were nominated by colleagues for their incredible work in keeping our community safe.

“Amy and Angie were nominated multiple times for the inspiring way they care for members of the community,” Ms Ehren said

“They selflessly offer their invaluable knowledge and skills to colleagues and are great mentors to our younger staff.”

Ms Ehren said the World Health Organisation had designated 2020 the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife. This year also coincided with the 200th year of the birth of Florence Nightingale, known as the founder of modern nursing.

“This award provides an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the vital role played by nurses and midwives in providing health care,” she said.

Kerrie Freeman, West Moreton Heath chief executive, added her congratulations.

“This is such a momentous occasion and to have the awards announced on International Nurses Day adds to the recognition. I am proud of your acts of kindness and join in your colleagues to say congratulations and thank you.”

Nurse of the Year: Amy Hunter works hard and without fanfare to give the best care to her patients and share her knowledge and skills with her colleagues. Amy received many nominations from peers, managers and other staff who talk of how her everyday behaviour models the values of connecting, respecting and excelling that WMH staff live by. Her nominations describe her as a teacher, mentor and professional nurse who inspires those around her and helps them achieve their best.

Midwife of the Year: Angie Reece is recognised as being a quiet achiever. Angie recently changed roles to become a Neonatal Midwifery Consultant, which is a new role at West Moreton Health. Angie’s colleagues were impressed by both her clinical expertise and change management skills.
